Working towards a greener Westboro

The Green Partnership Program has funds available for local community associations, service clubs, non-profit groups, local Business Improvement Agencies, and community members to undertake environmental enhancement or beautification projects on public properties. The program supports a broad range of clean and green environmentally focused projects such as: establishing wildflower meadows, butterfly habitats, restoration of natural habitat, installation of educational signs, designing and planting a floral display or community garden, schoolyard greening, and more! Deadline to apply for program funding is April 15, 2008.

The WCA is applying for this funding. What we'd like to know is this: what area(s) of Westboro do you think could use some "greening" ? Please post your ideas in the comments below. Thank you!

What about urging the school boards to set aside a small section of their properties to plant fruit trees? Their care and harvesting could be made part of the students’ science and/or social studies program, and it would be a positive step towards sustainability on a local level. As a bonus, the students could sell whatever fruit they’re able to grow to raise money for other school programs. It wouldn’t have to be a big operation – they could start with just a few trees and see how it works out.

IT SEEMS THAT THE RIGHT HAND DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE LEFT IS DOING.The city allows developers to infill taking away large areas of green space, and then asks us to green the tarmac

We should pool the money from this grant, so we could eventually buy the last green spaces, for our community.
We have lost the convent lets not loose the maple lawn field.
If the city is truly interested in greening our community. How about green roofs, and sound absorbing siding on all new buildings,a percentage of the property must be green, and NO CASH IN LOO OF OR MINOR VARIANCES.
